Energy
Driving Namibia's future through oil & gas, solar innovation, and ambitious green hydrogen and steel projects.
Namibia’s energy sector is undergoing a historic transformation, positioning the country as a leader in both traditional and renewable resources.
Oil & Gas Revolution: Major discoveries in the Orange Basin have positioned Namibia as the world’s next premier offshore oil prospect. International operators are progressing toward Final Investment Decisions. To ensure national participation, PETROFUND is investing heavily in local capacity, having supported 438 Namibians with over N$115 million in education and on-the-job training with industry giants. The call is for the youth to “Drill into the Future” and seize these opportunities.
Solar Power Expansion: NamPower is leading the charge in renewable generation. The flagship 100 MW Sores! Gaib Solar Power Station near Rosh Pinah, financed by a N$1.6 billion German concessional loan, is the largest of its kind and under construction. This project is part of a broader strategy that includes the completed 20 MW Omburu plant, a 40 MW biomass project, and critical Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Omburu and Lithops to ensure grid stability and integrate renewable energy.
Green Hydrogen & Industrialisation: The Namibia Green Hydrogen Programme (NGH2P) has signed a landmark MoU to develop an integrated green steel value chain. This ambitious initiative aims to use renewable hydrogen to process local iron ore, moving Namibia from a raw mineral exporter to a continental hub for low-carbon industrial production. This positions Namibia at the forefront of the global clean energy transition.
